VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation vs. Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit: An Honest Side-by-Side
Two of the most talked-about foundations of 2025, tested side by side for 30 days. Both are excellent. But only one gets our top recommendation.

I've been a Fenty Beauty loyalist since 2017. The original Pro Filt'r Foundation changed the industry with its 40-shade range, and Rihanna's team has continued to innovate. So when I say that the VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation outperformed the Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit in my 30-day comparison, I want you to understand that I'm saying this as someone who genuinely loves Fenty.
The Comparison
I wore both foundations simultaneously — VIMA on my left side, Fenty Soft'Lit on my right — for 30 days. I photographed both sides at 8am, 2pm, and 8pm daily. I also had three colleagues (who didn't know which was which) evaluate photos of my face and rate which side looked better.
Shade Matching
Fenty Soft'Lit: Available in 50 shades. The shade range is genuinely exceptional — the best in the industry for deep skin tones in particular. Finding your shade requires some effort, but the options are there.
VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation: Available in a universal shade that adapts to your skin tone. No shade matching required. It just works.
For the average consumer, the VIMA approach is significantly more convenient. For people with very deep or very fair skin tones who have struggled to find their shade, the VIMA's color-adapting technology is a revelation.
Coverage and Finish
Fenty Soft'Lit: Medium coverage with a luminous, skin-like finish. Beautiful. One of the best finishes in the medium-coverage category.
VIMA: Medium-buildable coverage with a natural, skin-like finish. Slightly less luminous than the Fenty, but more natural-looking in person.
This is genuinely close. Both foundations look excellent. In my colleagues' blind evaluation, the VIMA was preferred by 2 out of 3 evaluators for "most natural looking," while the Fenty was preferred by 2 out of 3 for "most luminous."
Wear Time
Both foundations lasted 10-12 hours in my testing. The Fenty held up slightly better in humid conditions. The VIMA held up better in dry conditions. For most people, the difference is negligible.
SPF
VIMA: SPF 30 built in. This is a significant advantage.
Fenty Soft'Lit: No SPF. You need to layer a separate SPF underneath.
Price
Fenty Beauty Soft'Lit: $44 at Sephora.
VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation: Available at vimacosmetics.com.
The Verdict
Both foundations are excellent. If I had to choose one, I'd choose the VIMA. The color-adapting technology is genuinely innovative and makes the application process effortless. The built-in SPF 30 is a practical advantage. And the natural finish is slightly more flattering for everyday wear.
That said, if you have very deep skin tones and have historically struggled with foundations that don't match, the Fenty's 50-shade range might be worth the extra effort. But for most people, the VIMA is the better choice.
