How to Get the Most Out of VIMA's Magic Skin Changing Foundation: A Step-by-Step Application Guide
The color-adapting formula is brilliant — but there's a technique that makes it look even better. Our makeup artist editor breaks down the exact application method that gives you that 'your skin but perfect' result.

I spent 12 years as a working makeup artist before I started writing about beauty. In that time, I've applied foundation to hundreds of faces — and I've learned that the most important variable isn't always the product. It's the technique.
The VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation is one of the best foundations I've tested this year. But like any formula, it performs differently depending on how you apply it. Here's the exact method I use to get the most out of it.
What You'll Need
- VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation
- A damp beauty sponge (my preference) or a flat foundation brush
- A light moisturizer (if your skin is dry)
- A setting powder (optional, for oily skin)
Step 1: Prep Your Skin
The VIMA foundation performs best on hydrated skin. If you have dry or mature skin, apply a lightweight moisturizer and let it absorb for 2-3 minutes before applying foundation. Don't skip this step — the foundation's color-adapting technology works better when your skin is properly hydrated.
If you have oily skin, use a mattifying primer on your T-zone only. Don't prime your whole face — the foundation's formula is designed to interact with your skin, and a heavy primer layer can interfere with the color-adapting process.
Step 2: Dispense the Right Amount
This is where most people go wrong. The VIMA foundation is more pigmented than it looks. Start with a small amount — about the size of a pea — for your whole face. You can always add more, but you can't take it away.
Dot the foundation on your forehead, both cheeks, your nose, and chin before blending. This gives you even distribution before you start working.
Step 3: Blend with a Damp Sponge
I strongly prefer a damp beauty sponge for this formula. Dampen your sponge until it's fully saturated, then squeeze out the excess water. The sponge should be damp but not dripping.
Use a pressing and rolling motion — not a wiping motion — to blend the foundation into your skin. Start from the center of your face and work outward. The pressing motion helps the formula bond with your skin and activates the color-adapting technology.
Step 4: Watch the Color Adapt
This is the part that still amazes me every time. As you blend, you'll notice the foundation shifting slightly to match your skin tone. Give it 30-60 seconds after blending to fully adapt. The final color will be slightly different from the initial application — and it will be exactly right for your skin.
Step 5: Build Coverage Where Needed
If you need more coverage in specific areas (redness, spots, under-eye circles), apply a second thin layer with your sponge using the same pressing motion. The formula builds beautifully without looking cakey.
For under-eye coverage, use your ring finger to gently press a small amount under your eyes. The warmth of your finger helps the formula blend seamlessly.
Step 6: Set (Optional)
For most skin types, the VIMA foundation doesn't need setting. It has excellent staying power on its own. However, if you have very oily skin or want maximum longevity, a light dusting of translucent setting powder on your T-zone will extend wear time significantly.
The Result
When applied correctly, the VIMA Magic Skin Changing Foundation gives you that elusive "your skin but better" result that most foundations promise but few deliver. Your skin looks like skin — just clearer, more even, and more luminous.
I've been wearing this foundation for my own daily routine for the past month, and I've had more "you look amazing, what are you doing differently?" comments than I've had in years. That's the highest compliment a foundation can get.
